India Desk

Increasingly, there are more UK and Indian businesses entering into bilateral agreements and more are envisaged under PM Narendra Modi’s governance. Although many cross border specialists were opening up India desk’s in solicitor’s practices, Jayesh decided to establish an India Desk at 33 Bedford Row in 2014, being the very first such initiative at the Bar of England and Wales, specifically to meet the needs of businesses both in India and the UK. Jayesh has a license to take direct instructions from lay clients and to conduct litigation. The India Desk can truly be treated as a one-stop shop for litigants.

With the increased necessity of including arbitration clauses in most contracts between the two countries, the aim of the India Desk is to provide a first-class service in drafting pleadings and advocacy to companies in both jurisdictions that have or are entering into JVs, MoUs, acquisitions and mergers. It also provides advice across a broad spectrum of areas of law with an emphasis on dispute resolution proceedings concerning commercial, company compliance, regulatory matters-both contentious and advisory.

With the above in mind and given the fact that Jayesh has facilitated B2B meetings by generating leads in the past, the India Desk will promote opportunities within various industry sectors for those seriously looking to partner up with companies in either jurisdiction. This will provide a bespoke JV service to increase bilateral trade. As an example, key sectors where expert advice and assistance can be offered are:

  • IT sector and innovation
  • Healthcare
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Retail
  • Manufacturing
  • Professional services and outsourcing

In summary:

1  The India Desk is the first such initiative at the Bar of England and Wales.

2  Via the India Desk in chambers, Jayesh can act as an open litigator, can accept and serve proceedings or letters before action, draft pleadings, advice and represent in courts/tribunals and arbitration proceedings.

3  The India Desk is specifically designed to facilitate bilateral trade between India and UK companies and offer expertise to resolve disputes.

4  Jayesh can support the entire arbitration process from drafting pleadings to advocacy.
